Bird Feeder Craft

This is a good way to use up stale buns. Ours were tray buns leftover from Christmas and I didn't want to throw them out.

  • poke a hole through the bun
  • string (I used shiny gift wrapping string because the shinier item will attract birds, plus it will be easy to find in the spring to clean up, you could however use hemp twine or yarn) whatever length you want through the bun and tie loose ends
  • smear bun with shortening, lard, or peanut butter (this depends what kind of birds you have)
  • roll sticky bun in birdseed
  • hang outdoors!
I put them up in the morning but then went outside in the afternoon and stuck chopsticks from takeout meals into the holes so the birds could sit on them while eating, otherwise they are just hovering around the buns! I have used these chopsticks before and the birds seem to like them as a "branch". 'Cause I can read birds minds, ya know.

hahaha that is cute. I guess a hummingbird could go there by themselves but that is it. Funny about the chopsticks. Yes you do seem to know them birds!
